Breed Information
The breed is popular and fully registered in many European countries such as Switzerland, Netherlands, Austria, Belgium Sweden, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Denmark, South Africa and Norway to name a few.  The breed was officially recognised by the Federation Cynologique Internationale (FCI) "World Kennel Organisation" on 18th December, 2002, as the “Berger Blanc Suisse” (translation “White Swiss Shepherd Dog”).  This means that they are no longer a "disqualifying fault" of the German Shepherd Dog, but are now a totally independent pure breed of dog.

For this to happen, White Shepherds clubs needed to prove that their dogs were actually different to the German Shepherd Dog.  Due to being bred separately from German Shepherd Dogs for many decades now, the differences are quite obvious.  Contrary to general belief, the White Swiss Shepherd Dog or Berger Blanc Suisse is not the white variety of the German Shepherd (or even worse, the albino version). The most obvious distinction is the more horizontal (gradually sloping) back.  Furthermore, small differences have evolved over the past years, since both breeds have been kept and bred separately.
